We Were Made to Thrive

Recently, I have had a lot happen in my life and experienced a lot of change. Thriving has become my new life word. Casting Crowns has a song titled "Thrive," and it is wonderful. It's become my life song and I have been listening to it on repeat. The lyrics of this song mean so much to me, and I resonate with every beat. The lord made us to do so much more than just survive, he created us to thrive. The definition of thrive is to grow or develop vigorously, and some synonyms are prosper, flourish, blossom, succeed, and bloom. Growth can not happen without change. Whatever big change you're going through, wether it be moving to college, getting out of a toxic relationship, or just starting a new lifestyle, it may be tough at first.

No matter how tough life gets, we always have the lord and he is right there with us every step of the journey. You were not made to go through this life alone. In this world, we have Jesus and each other. There is a reason the lord placed other humans on this planet, quality Christian community is so important. Surviving is for those who have no hope; children of God were meant to thrive. You were not created to struggle and barely make it through the week. There is no reason that you should have to hold on to anxiety, worry, doubt, or fear. Jesus died on the cross, so we could cast those things on him. You were meant to live life to its full extent and live authentically and abundantly. You were meant to reach out to others, and be a light in the darkness, letting God's love flow through you. Let everything you do point to the lord.

Proverbs 13:19 (the message) "Souls who follow their hearts thrive; fools bent on evil despise matters of the soul." You will live authentically and be the best version of yourself when you trust in the lord and follow his plan over your own. When you trust in him, he will show you your talents and show you your purpose. Follow the lord, and everything will fall into place. His plan is greater than we could ever imagine and so much better than our own. Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the lord, "plans to prosper you, and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future."

In this life, we will have many different seasons. Right now, I am in a season of singleness and growth, after experiencing a big change. The lord sent me to rock bottom and let me struggle just long enough to realize how much I needed him, and then he gave me the strength to thrive. Once I hit rock bottom, he was the rock solid foundation right under me. I am spending so much time with the lord and focusing solely on my relationship with him, so I will have a solid foundation for my relationships with all humans, and he will always be at the center. Living for Christ is the best way to live. Yes you will still have struggles, and some seasons will be tougher than others. There will be good days, and there will be bad days. However, the lord says in John 16:33 (NIV), "I have told you these things, so that you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

Coming to college and joining CRU and YoungLife changed my life, encouraging me to get involved in a way I never had before. CRU allowed me to go on a mission trip, along with being discipled, and joining a bible study. YoungLife has allowed me to lead high schoolers. Both organizations have surrounded me with awesome friends and amazing Christian community to hold me accountable and be there when I need a hug. In high school, the word thrive was not in my vocabulary. I was just going through the motions and barely surviving. I had severe anxiety and ADD, and I did not know how to handle it; life was a daily struggle. I was awkward, shy, had bad social skills, few friends, and kids liked to make fun of me. Being anxious all the time just made me mad and upset, which only added to my anxiety and I did not like to open up to anyone. You may be in survival mode right now and not even realize it.. if you're thinking, if I can just get to the weekend, if I can just make it to Summer, if I can just ace this test, if I can just make it to graduation, etc. Living your life in survival mode will not enable to find your purpose and live God's plan to its full extent. You will not thrive. People who survive are merely existing.

Are you surviving or thriving? That's a question you need to ask yourself and answer honestly. If you're in survival mode, you've got a lot of work to do and remember you're not alone. God is waiting for you to call on him and is ready with open arms. You were created to know God and make him known. Make thrive your life word, not survive. No matter what happens, my best friend Kaitlyn and I always say, "We're fine, it's fine becuase we are still thriving." Anything that life throws our way, God is still good and he created us to thrive. You can still thrive during the tough times and thrive through the mess. When you are rooted in Christ, you will thrive.

I challenge you to thrive and do more than just survive, life your life to its full potential. Don't miss out on anything that God has in store for you!! Kait and I have this photo saved as our phone lock screen, as a constant reminder that we are always thriving. If ya use this, tweet me @dariasmithyt, and keep on #thriving! I also made some thriving stickers on Redbubble, here and here. I love y'all with all my heart, and Jesus loves y'all even more... that's why he died on the cross for you. Below are some extra verses from Proverbs about #thriving.

Proverbs 11:25 "A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others himself will be refreshed."

Proverbs 16:3 "Commit to the lord, whatever you do, and your plans will succeed."

Proverbs 16:20 "Blessed is the one who trusts in the lord."

Proverbs 19:8 "He who cherishes understanding prospers."
